Elektron® 43 Magnesium

Magnesium casting alloy

Elektron® 43 magnesium alloy can be used successfully in temperatures up to 300°C.

The magnesium alloy offers attractive mechanical properties at both ambient and elevated temperatures and benefits from high specific stiffness and good ductility. With high strength, the alloy is creep-resistant and easy to machine. The addition of yttrium in the alloy mix reduces the flammability of the material as it creates a more robust surface oxide film. Flame resistance is, therefore, comparable with aluminium.

Benefits:

While offering excellent energy absorption characteristics, the material provides good corrosion resistance. It is a perfect choice for motorsport applications where weight reduction is required while maintaining the highest performance levels. Elektron® 43 offers a viable alternative to high-strength aluminium alloys, particularly in weight-saving applications. The mechanical properties of the alloy are superior compared to other magnesium plate and sheet products.

Welding:

The alloy is weldable using the tungsten arc inert gas process.

Motorsport Applications:

Elektron® 43 finds use in various motorsport engineering applications, including chassis components, structural engine components and weight reduction design.
