Smiths High Performance is a stockist of magnesium bar products, which are ideal for use in motorsport applications due to the alloys excellent strength to weight ratio.

We stock bar products in a variety of lengths and diameters to ensure that we have material which is suitable for your machining requirements.

In-House Processing:

While magnesium is a potentially volatile material, the alloy is relatively straightforward to cut. Magnesium has a much lower cutting resistance when compared to most alloys (only 55% of the power required to cut aluminium) and is usually cut dry. Although powder and dust produced during the cutting process are incredibly flammable, safe storage practices and the use of sharp cutting tools will eliminate risk. We have all the necessary experience and expertise to process your magnesium bar products in-house, and to lengths which suit your requirements. Our 'cut to size' service' service is an attractive proposition to our customers due to the potential hazards encountered during processing.

Magnesium bars are one of the fastest alloys to cut. While it might be thought that the quality of the cutting tool determines such speed, the actual cutting process and the time it takes is dictated by the speed and the power of the bar saw being deployed. As with all magnesium products, good safety procedures are essential and our cutting operations are never left unattended.
