Airware® 2198-T8 is an ideal product for damage tolerant applications.


Introducing Airware® 2198-T8 - a low-density aluminium alloy combining high static properties and damage tolerance. The alloy not only benefits from high corrosion and fatigue resistance, but its low density also results in high stiffness, offering engineers weight-reducing possibilities while maintaining strength. Moreover, Airware®2198-T8 is available in thin gauges, can be used as a bare material, and is readily weldable using conventional methods. Most importantly, it can be recycled repeatedly without any loss in properties, making it a sustainable choice for engineering applications.

Suitability:

Airware® 2198-T8 is suitable for applications requiring high damage tolerance and static properties. The material provides excellent corrosion and fatigue resistance.

Stock Availability:

Airware® 2198 is available in flat bars, round bars, plates and forgings.

Comparisons with 2014-T351:

While 3% less dense than 2014-T351, Airware® 2198-T8 offers 22% greater fatigue resistance and 47% greater toughness. The alloy is also marginally stiffer (3%). Longitudinal ultimate tensile strength is 48% greater.
