Case Hardened Steel
Superior durability
Smiths High Performance has developed secondary case-hardened gear and bearing steels with a single objective in mind.
To reduce failures in gearboxes, camshafts and input shafts by utilising improved ultra-strength steel.
Our steel alloys utilise efficient M2C precipitate strengthening dispersion to provide our customers with a specially designed product which affords an ultra high strength core with excellent fracture toughness. Our gear steels also offer the same carburised surface properties as conventional gear steels such as AISI 9310 and EN36C.

Industry Demand
Significant advances in engine design have inevitably increased power; this has led to failures in dog rings, racks, input shafts, camshafts and gears.
Developing higher specification materials, which also utilise the same beneficial qualities of standard commercial products, allows us to provide engine designers with an option to increase performance without compromising reliability.

Steel Alloy Range:
Gear Steels
We supply two high-performance steel grades, designed specifically for the production of gears and bearings - Ferrium® C61 and Ferrium® C64.
Both products represent a superior alternative to conventional steel products. Features include ultra-high-strength, high toughness and a core which resists high temperatures. The resulting alloys allow engineers to design smaller and more lightweight engine components.

Modern Stockholding
Our head office includes a state-of-the-art warehouse with cantilever racking to stock and supply engineering materials to the motorsport market.
