Smiths High Performance has developed secondary case-hardened gear and bearing steels with one objective in mind - to reduce failures in gearboxes, camshafts and input shafts by utilising an improved ultra strength steel.
Utilising an efficient M2C precipitate strengthening dispersion, our steel alloys provide our customers with a specifically designed product which affords an ultra high strength core with excellent fracture toughness. Our gear steels also offer the same carburized surface properties as conventional gear steels such as AISI 9310 and EN36C. Our stock range also includes maraging steel which is another high strength steel alloy.
The landscape of the motorsport industry has changed with major advances in engine design which has inevitably increased power. This has led to failures in dog rings, racks, input shafts, camshafts and gears.
By developing higher specification materials which also utilise the same beneficial qualities of the commercial products in the market, Smiths High Performance are providing engine designers with an option to increase performance whilst not compromising reliability.
