Our magnesium plates offer great load bearing capabilities, while keep weight to a minimum.

We offer a range of high-performance magnesium plate products from stock which are available for immediate supply.

Investment:

Our plate stock represents a considerable financial investment - magnesium is around 20% more expensive than aluminium. However, magnesium offers unique performance characteristics and is popular in motorsport applications. We, therefore, support the global motorsport sector with magnesium plate in a variety of sizes and thicknesses to suit our customer buying requirements.

Plate Cutting:

We offer our customers added value with in-house plate processing operations to saw your magnesium plates to individual size requirements. Dry sawing of magnesium plate is the preferred method, although a light mineral oil coolant is also an option. Magnesium alloy has a significantly lower cutting resistance when compared to other alloys. As the material is highly flammable, safe storage and disposal of magnesium dust and swarf are critical, since any exposure to water is hazardous. Our processing team have all the necessary experience to cut your magnesium plates safely and to your size specifications.

Metallurgical Support:

Our UKAS laboratory is a unique feature offered by Smiths High Performance. We are the only stockholder to our knowledge offering comprehensive metallurgical support in-house. From tensile testing to Charpy impact testing, we offer a range of testing routines which add value to our existing stock proposition.
