Aluminium sheet is produced to UK aerospace specifications in a wide variety of alloys. Physical and mechanical properties vary a great deal depending on the alloy and the heat treatment employed, making correct product selection critical. Flatness is often another key consideration selecting the right product for a specific application.

Modern rolling mills are able to supply aluminium sheet to many different tempers allowing for maximum flexibility in design. Clad sheets allow for specific mechanical properties to be combined with corrosion resistance extending the range of applications even further. Sheet surfaces can also be supplied to a polished finish should this be required.

A low to medium strength aluminium alloy that combines very good resistance to corrosion with good weldability and formability. L59:H16/H26, L60:H12/H22, L61:'O'.

L80/L81

5251

A medium strength aluminium alloy with high corrosion resistance. This alloy is weldable and finds many applications in marine environments. L80:’O’, L81:H16/H26.

7075 clad T6

High strength 7075 alloy clad with 1050 alloy to improve corrosion resistance. Usually supplied as sheet in the T6 temper.

L109/L110

2024 clad T4/T42

High strength 2024 alloy clad with 1050A to improve corrosion resistance. L109 usually supplied as sheet in the T4 temper, L110 in the T42 temper.

6082 T6

Medium strength 6082 alloy with good anodising, welding, corrosion resistance and machinability. Usually supplied as sheet in the T6 temper.

L156/L157

2014A bare T4/T6

A high strength 2014A alloy containing 3.9 to 5 % copper. High mechanical properties with good machinability. Natural corrosion resistance is poor. L156:T4, L157:T6

L158/ L159

2014A bare T4/T6

A high strength 2014A alloy rolled to close tolerances. High mechanical properties with good machinability. Natural corrosion resistance is poor. L158:T4, L159:T6

2014A clad T3/T4/T6

A high strength 2014A alloy clad with 1050A to improve corrosion resistance. High mechanical properties with good machinability. L163:T3, L164:T4/T6.

L166/L167

2014A clad T4/T6

A high strength 2014A alloy rolled to close tolerances and clad with 1050A to improve corrosion resistance. High mechanical properties with good machinability. L166:T4, L167:T6

DTD 5070B

2618A clad T6

A strong 2618A type alloy containing 2% copper and 1.5% magnesium, clad with 7072 and supplied in the T6 temper. High mechanical strength.
